100 years of house history at the Wildsee - an eventful history in Gschwandt ...

Gasthof Wildsee 1967

The story of the Haus am Wildsee began in 1925 with the purchase of a building shell by Cyprian Stern, the great-grandfather of the current owner, in the district of Gschwandt in the municipality of Reith. At that time, it was the last house on the edge of the forest, located directly on the idyllic lake - a place that promised relaxation even then.

In the following years, the shell of the building was converted into an inn. The property not only housed an inn, but also a small bathing establishment, which attracted both locals and summer holidaymakers even back then. Over the years, the popular excursion destination also developed into a small campsite that allowed guests to get close to nature.

A significant change took place in 1980: Evelin Klima, Cyprian Stern's granddaughter, demolished the old building, which could no longer be renovated, to create space for a modern new building. The result was Café Wildsee, a charming house with four holiday flats, which quickly became a meeting place for coffee lovers and holiday guests.

With tourism in the region on the rise, the building was soon expanded: two more holiday flats were added so that even more guests could enjoy the special location by the lake.

Following the closure of the café and the takeover by daughter Belinda Reinhardt in 2006, this part of the house was also remodelled and converted into another flat. Today, the building presents itself purely as a flat house - with history, character and a view of a century of lived hospitality.
